In 1896 a small church and cemetery was constructed on a hilltop in Mt. Dora, Florida. The church consisted of just 8 pews and a pot-bellied stove in the sanctuary, a bell in the bell-tower and a simple wooden cross on top, of which is still there today. Built by the pioneering African-American families from Georgia and North Florida, the church was a place to meet, worship and congregate. This little church has been through a lot in the past 121 years, and although it experienced a fire and relocation across from its original hilltop, it is standing tall and proud.
Commercial Building Consultants, LLC was recently honored to have a part in the saving and restoration of the historic landmark. We were provided with the task of performing a Property Condition Assessment on the church. Greg Trotter, CBC President was tasked with performing the inspection. "It is such a great opportunity for CBC to be able to perform the inspection on this historic church", stated Trotter. "To be able to see the history and craftsmanship of a property like this is amazing."
The Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church is such a wonderful historic landmark in Mt. Dora, Florida, and CBC was proud to be a part of this project.
